Good deed of the day

Today my friend and I explained in detail how to comb hair without breaking it or hurting your child. It was useful information to our friend who is a dad of a gorgeous little blondie with thin tangly hair.

Great Article

This article by Christina Sobran has it all.

Select quotes I love:

“I didn’t think I could travel with him because he is a Republican,” Ms. Ashley said.

“Beth and I have been like two bookends, with almost 70 years of empty space between us,” Mr. Fellows said. “There’s a lot to catch up on, but we better do it quickly. We can always relax a little more toward the end.”

Never a dull moment with Tyson

Tyson and I made a friend this morning. I walked him up Hilands, turned left on Marvin Way, turned right to get to Church street and was almost back to Hilands when I heard a jingle behind us and saw a big, cute dog running towards us. I looked around for his owner to be following – nothing.

There were a few kids across the street waiting for the bus. I hollered to them: “Do you know whose dog this is?” They all said no. Tyson and the other dog are playing, getting tangled in Tyson’s leash, batting at my scarf, being chaotic. I grab the dog to look at his collar which has a phone number but I don’t have my phone with me. I decide I’ll walk home and get him to follow me.

Then a boy runs over and asks if I’m looking for where the dog came from.
“Yes.”
“It’s my neighbors – that dark blue house on the corner.”

So we turn back towards the house and start jogging to keep the momentum of returning this pooch and because I need to get to work! I go up to the door and ring the bell. There is already a dog inside so I wonder if it’s the right place. Then a man shows up to the door & says “Oh my goodness! How did you get out of here Lord Stanley?” Yes, the dog’s name is Lord Stanley. “He must have run out the back door.”

Lord Stanley trots in so it’s Tyson and I panting out on the porch. I tell him we should have a real play date sometime because they were having a blast & he says to stop by sometime! You never know how you might befriend the neighbors. You never know what kind of fun you’ll get into when walking your 85 pound Doberman.

New York Times article by Pico Iyer -- The Pursuit of What Matters in Troubled Times

Here is an excerpt I like:

"I have time to read the new John le Carre, while nibbling at sweet tangerines in the sun. When a Sigur Ros album comes out, it fills my days and nights, resplendent. And then it seems that happiness, like peace or passion, comes most freely when it isn’t pursued."

on the record

I posed for my friend's art exhibit. Here are some cool pics. Carrie is amazing and her giant art installation won the contest. The photographer, Germaine, was super chill & made you feel at ease. I feel so bad for the ANTM girls now that I see how hard it is. PSYCHE! Gotcha. It's a smidge stress-inducing but mostly pretty fun to be in the spotlight. Carrie's home is out-of-this-world-awesome. She has the most vibrant colors and interesting decorations. It was the perfect setting for us to be record loving pin-up girls!
