Tyson and I made a friend this morning. I walked him up Hilands, turned left on Marvin Way, turned right to get to Church street and was almost back to Hilands when I heard a jingle behind us and saw a big, cute dog running towards us. I looked around for his owner to be following – nothing.
There were a few kids across the street waiting for the bus. I hollered to them: “Do you know whose dog this is?” They all said no. Tyson and the other dog are playing, getting tangled in Tyson’s leash, batting at my scarf, being chaotic. I grab the dog to look at his collar which has a phone number but I don’t have my phone with me. I decide I’ll walk home and get him to follow me.
Then a boy runs over and asks if I’m looking for where the dog came from.
“Yes.”
“It’s my neighbors – that dark blue house on the corner.”
So we turn back towards the house and start jogging to keep the momentum of returning this pooch and because I need to get to work! I go up to the door and ring the bell. There is already a dog inside so I wonder if it’s the right place. Then a man shows up to the door & says “Oh my goodness! How did you get out of here Lord Stanley?” Yes, the dog’s name is Lord Stanley. “He must have run out the back door.”
Lord Stanley trots in so it’s Tyson and I panting out on the porch. I tell him we should have a real play date sometime because they were having a blast & he says to stop by sometime! You never know how you might befriend the neighbors. You never know what kind of fun you’ll get into when walking your 85 pound Doberman.
